Transportation: Household Goods Brief OCONUS to CONUS

Hey y'all. I have another fun moving/pcs update for everyone!

Today we had our official "Transportation Brief". Woohoo.
One step closer.

For those who misunderstand or aren't sure, a Transportation Brief isn't about traveling or flight tickets, it's about the shipment of your Household Goods, Unaccompanied baggage and your vehicle.

Here in Graf/Vilseck Germany, you must schedule an appointment for this brief. It is not optional for the sponsor/soldier. Totally optional for spouse.

First Step:
Orders are required before this brief. Schedule your movers after obtaining orders, otherwise this brief may not do you any good.

You aren't required to bring orders, and you really won't need to take notes at this brief. But bring a pen just in case.
The brief lasts about 45 minutes.
Oh, and do make sure to show up on time. The lady that 'officiated' our brief turned away stragglers who were late, telling them to reschedule.

At the brief, the person will hand you paperwork that's already filled out with your info on it.
The purpose of this brief is to ensure that all of the info is correct on your transportation forms. There was not a single person in our brief that had 100% correct info on the forms. Just sayin'.

Basically, the person in charge goes over the forms, box by box, and you correct what is wrong (address, name misspellings, dates, etc,.).

There are a few things you CANNOT correct on these important forms in this briefing.
If you plan to send unaccompanied baggage, you must state that fact during your initial transportation visit when scheduling movers. If you did not tell transportation that you want to send UA, a shipment request date will not magically appear on these forms at the brief.

Once you review and correct the forms, you're done!

Now the only reason I bothered writing this post is because of a few folks we had in our brief:

***One dependent spouse showed up WITHOUT any PoAs and without her sponsor. In my opinion, this woman should have known better, being as that she was a really high ranking officer's wife...
The forms will have to be initialed and signed by the sponsor, or a person who is authorized with a PoA in hand to prove it.

***One soldier did not have any shipment info for his POV (personally owned vehicle).
Again, you are supposed to schedule your HHG movers, UA movers (if applicable), and your VPC appointment BEFORE scheduling to attend this brief. If you don't, you will be needing to attend the brief, again.

I know its not a whole lot of info, but hopefully it can help someone out there!

We're getting down to the nitty gritty, folks! Less than a month before the car ships out. EEK!
