Weiden, Germany isn't a host of many fascinating historical sights to the common tourist, however it's a super cute town with quite a bit of shopping and restaurants.
We have officially been to Weiden twice (the photos below are from our second visit), and the second time we went we realized there was much more to this city than we first saw!
Weiden has a little bit of something for everyone: Lots of clothing shops, and lots of what I like to call "European Dollar General" stores. Maybe that makes them 'Euro General' stores?
There is a badass toy store here, but you can't exactly see it from the street. Like most mall-ish type places in German cities, they are hidden within pathways between buildings. That's still weird to me. Unless you have an exact street address, it's hard to find some shops and eateries people may have told you about.
One girl has mentioned on her blog that she had some pretty awesome Chili Con Carne in a German restaurant there, but I haven't found it yet :-/
There are many restaurants here, though! A major thing that I appreciate about Weiden is that there is a rather large, outdoor car park near the bus depot, and about a block from the city center. I dig outdoor parking much more than I do the parkhaus styled garages in cities.
I'm sure we'll return to Weiden and often. With its proximity to post and the nearest city that has stores to offer (though it's not as big as Nuremberg), I feel that we'll become quite familiar with Weiden by the time we PCS.

What I especially like about Weiden is that there is a lot of smaller things to see that aren't necessarily tourist attractions. The statue thing below was a happy accident. It sits near the parking lot, and I have absolutely NO clue what it symbolizes, but I love it. ***Revised: It is a Jewish memorial. I still like it, but the symbolism behind the sculpture is quite sad.
Honestly, we walked around aimlessly. That's actually my preferred method of sightseeing. When you have a loaded itinerary, it leaves no room for exploration or nifty bicycle photos!
When we were getting ready to head back to the car, we stumbled upon a sweet little playground. The kids obviously enjoyed themselves!
