Amberg, Deutschland

Amberg is often talked about in my area. People call it the "go-to" place for anything you need that cannot be found on post.
I have only visited once, and don't understand quite yet where everything is. We have a tendency to park near the 'platz' (or city center) areas of every city, assuming it is close to everything. I don't think this is the case for Amberg. Comparing this city and Weiden, which is another nearby city, I'd much rather be in Weiden...

I did find a high end department store that reminded me of a Nordstrom sans Frye boots :-(  By the way, I wore a new pair of Frye's when we visited Amberg. Bad idea. Breaking in new boots on cobblestone streets is one of the dumbest ideas I have ever had.

We did find a hidden mini golf place in Amberg and killed an hour playing with the kiddies. It was super cheap too; about €10 for 18 holes, for our family of six. That's pennies compared to the US where we average $35-60 per game with our family.
The mini golf place is near the front of St George (or St. Georg Kirche), just outside the fortification wall, if you wish to find it
.

We also had our first rendezvous with a store called "Poco" that a lot of locals talk about. Three floors of dorm room type furniture, some of which was neat. The couches, for instance, were perfect for a media/entertainment room.

The store is worth visiting, but reminds me of a knock-off Ikea (must I note that Ikea is not known for long lasting quality furniture, either). The Poco store has curtains, particle board furniture (no heavy duty, heirloom furniture here), household odds and ends, decorative junk, and some tools. What I liked most was their rug selection.

Definitely plan to return to Amberg, as it is only a 20 minute drive, but I'll have to do a bit more research on the town. We kind of just went on a whim, but now I wish to know where the key interests are. Soon enough I'll have it figured out.
